山陰,その人々、風景 - The Sanin Scenery and People

The Sanin coastline is a series of rocky inlets and bays, a few sandy beaches, and a lot of wonderful scenery, at almost any time the year. We can find a seashore like that of the Sahara Desert in Tottori Prefecture, at the Tottori Sand Dunes. Near there are the famous 20th Century Pears that are so juicy and delicious.

岩に囲まれた入り江、渚、砂浜の連なる山陰の海岸は、一年を通して風光明媚な美しい風景を見せてくれます。「鳥取砂丘」の砂浜に行くと、サハラ砂漠にいるような錯覚にとらわれます。そこからほどない所に、果汁をたっぷり含んだ美味しい二十世紀梨が栽培されているところがあります。

The Kodomo no Kuni (Children’s land) is a fantastic amusement park for children and adults alike. Then we can go along the coast toward the west and find the beautiful Shimane Peninsula with its magnificent scenery, fishing, and swimming. On the way, we pass the historic and leg- endary Hakuto Kaigan (Hakuto Beach), which is famous for its story of Okuninushi no Mikoto and the rabbit of Inaba. You can see a statue at Izumo Taisha that represents this ancient myth.

「子供の国」は空想の世界を思わせる、子供だけでなく大人も一緒に楽しめる遊園地です。因幡の白兎の物語で知られる、歴史と伝説に包まれた「白兎海岸」を西に飛ぶと、島根半島の雄大な姿が視界に開けてきます。ここでは美しい風景、釣り、海水浴を楽しむ事が出来ます。出雲大社にはこの物語に登場する大国主命と白兎の銅像があります。

Along the peninsula, you will find many tiny fishing villages that still look as they did in the past. There have been few changes in their rustic appearance. There are sand beaches along the coast, and many rocks and islands. Fishing is great, with many fishermen coming from far away to enjoy their sport in these beautiful spots. These fishing areas are found all along the Sanin coast. Private fishing boats can be seen everywhere.

島根半島沿いには多くの小さな漁村が昔からの変わらぬ姿を今に伝えています。岩や島に囲まれた砂浜の続くこの一帯は格好の釣り場で、はるばる遠くからやって来た多くの釣り人達で賑わっています。山陰地方には、良好な釣り場が至る所にあり、多くの自家用ボートが海の上を所せましと走っています。

Gotsu, Taki, Oda, Hamada, Nima, and Masuda are all found on this picturesque and lovely coast.

風景画を思わせる山陰の海岸線上には、江津、多伎、大田、浜田、仁摩、益田、といった街が並んでいます。

Each has its own charm! For a person to get the true feeling of Japan, a trip from one end of the Sanin Area to the other, is almost a necessity. You will find fabulous scenery, friendly people, ancient history that is second-to-none in Japan, and warmth and hospitality that will give you a feeling of being at home. Many visitors want to stay!
