どんど - dondo
The event called or -yaki is a fire festival that takes place on January 15th. Families bring their decorative pines for the New Year that are called kadomatsu, straw festoons called shimenawa, New Year’s calligraphy writings called kakizome, and other such New Year’s decorative items to shrines and other locations. First, they build a fire with the decorative items, and toast rice cakes on the fire. Then, they eat the rice cakes while wishing for good health and good luck for the year.
「とんど」または「焼き」とも言われる。1月15日に行われる火祭りの行事。それぞれの家庭から門松(かどまつ)・注連縄(しめなわ)・書き初めなどを神社などに持ち寄って焼き、その火で餅を焼いて食べ、その年の健康と幸福を祈る。
